For those of you that know me well, you'll know I'm something of a skincare geek!
Ever since I was diagnosed with psoriasis over 20 years ago (psoriasis is skin condition characterised by raised, red, scaly patches of skin) I've made it my mission to keep my skin in the best condition possible, at whatever age I am ✨
For the last ten years, I've been taking a Flaxseed oil supplement (upon the advice of a nutritionalist) to help reduce inflammation on my skin caused by psoriasis.
Flaxseed oil comes from the seeds of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum, L.) 🌿
It's a natural skincare ingredient that you can apply both to your skin as well as taking it as a supplement.
Flaxseed oil is packed full of highly concentrated antioxidants, that help to protect and repair skin from premature ageing and environmental damage (like sun damage).
It also has anti-inflammatory properties that help to minimise any skin irritation or redness, meaning that sunburn or a skin rash may heal quicker once a little of this soothing oil is applied.
Flaxseed oil is also extremely beneficial for dry, flaky or dull skin, as well as chronic skin conditions, such as rosacea, acne, dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis. The fatty acids work to balance out the oils in our skin and reduce any inflammation.
Flaxseed may smooth wrinkles!
The omega-3 protein found in flaxseed oil helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles by helping to repair skin cells.
In a scientific study, women who used flaxseed oil saw a decrease in their skin's sensitivity to irritation and roughness (making it great for dry, sensitive and rosacea prone skin!), and they reported an increase in smoothness and hydration.
As I head towards my 50's, I have to say that I think there's something in this...

I take 2,000mg daily flaxseed oil supplement.
I always buy organic, cold-pressed flaxseed oil, because it means the oil will be pure and full of nutrients!
Just be sure to ingest it daily and expect gradual results over the course of 3 months.
Applying flaxseed oil topically helps repair skin cells and improves skin elasticity, firmness, tone and texture.

Here's how you can make your own flaxseed serum using a supplement.
Take an organic, cold pressed flaxseed capsule.
Using a pair of scissors, make a small cut into the capsule and then empty the oil onto the palm of your hands, and use this to message onto your entire face and neck, for firmer, softer and more youthful looking skin!
You can use this alone or under your regular evening skin care routine.
It's a great night-time serum to soften and hydrate your skin 🌙
But, make sure you only apply this in the evening - using this in the day will cause your makeup up to slip right off!
